BOTOX© At A Glance

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often called by its brand name Botox©, is a preferred non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, crows feet by the eyes and thick bands in the neck.

BOTOX© Plastic is approved for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18-65.

In 2000, it was approved for the treatment of cervical dystonia (a condition that causes extreme neck and shoulder contractions).

An unusual side effect of the eye disorder treatment, doctors noticed that Botox reduced the frown wrinkles between the eyebrows.

In April 2002, the FDA was convinced by its review of studies indicating that Botox reduced the severity of frown lines for up to 120 days and approved the drug.

BOTOX© Reasons & Benefits

In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to good one month after being treated. Results can last for up to four months, and can vary between individuals.

BOTOX© Surgery Procedure

The procedure begins with a pre-operative consultation with the doctor when you are provided with careful instructions about how to prepare for the technique.

Your doctor will give many tiny injections of BOTOX© directly into the muscles are responsible for those moderate to severe frown lines on your brows. No anesthesia is necessary, although your doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream before injecting.

The location, size, and use of the muscles that make a furrowed brow vary tremendously between patients. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed attractiveness.

You will probably notice a marked improvement in the moderate to severe wrinkles between your brows within days. If you do not repeat the procedures, the wrinkles between your brows will slowly like they did before treatment.

Before having the technique done, the patient should be prepared to realize that BOTOX© does not actually erase lines but relaxes them. What this means is that deeper wrinkles will become a bit less deep and tiny wrinkles will nearly disappear. But BOTOX© Plastic will not permanently improve your facial smoothness.

It is surprising to see how many people do not recall how they looked at the time of the procedure and are surprised at the difference when shown a photograph.

You can figure to be in and out of the surgeon's office without downtime. You can go directly back to your normal activities.

Try them. We think you'll like them.

Risks And Complications Of BOTOX©

Botox© has been widely used for more than 11 years with over one million people.

Over the past 20 years, Botulinum Toxin Type A has been evaluated in more than two hundred studies. There are no documented systemic risks associated with Botox© injections. Serious heart risks and serious allergic reactions have been reported very seldom.

If you think you're having an allergic reaction or other unusual symptoms, including difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, call your doctor immediately.

BOTOX© Costs

Surgeons fees for BOTOX© are normally between $10 and $20 per injection. The quantity of injections varies from patient to patient. Additional fees for the operating room can increase the total. In addition the fees are generally more in some major cities.

Ask your surgeon to find the precise cost at the time of making your decision. There are options for paying the fees over time.

Questions To Ask Your Liposuction Surgeon

You should always have a meeting with your doctor at the time of agreeing to any procedure. Be sure you take sufficient time to get your complete questions answered. In addition you will probably ask to see before and after photos to get a better idea of what is realistic.

When it comes to selecting a physician-administered aesthetic treatment, chances are you'll want proof, not just claims. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery makes these suggestions: Ask questions and be intelligent about the benefits and risks involved in the technique.

Some questions you will probably ask include:

  • Am I being realistic about my desired outcome?
  • Where will the surgery be done and how long will it take?
  • What is the recovery time for doing many general activities?
  • What is the amount this will cost me?
  • How much practice have you had with this technique?
  • How often do complications happen?
  • What if I am not satisfied with the outcome?

Check that the surgeon has all your medical history and knows of any allergies or special needs you have.
