The patient will feel only a scraping or scratching sensation from the cannula movement. Frequently the patient can get up, walk, and go home the same day unless they received general anesthesia, although they'll need someone else to drive.
A compression garment or bandage is worn for two to four weeks. If non-absorbable stitches are placed, they can be removed after five to ten days. Depending on the amount of liposuction, clients are generally able to return to work or school after two days to two weeks.

Liposuction carries greater risk for individuals with medical complications such as diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, or people who have recently had surgical techniques near the area to be contoured.

Surgeons costs for liposuction are normally between $600 to $1,200, depending on difficulty, for a small area. The fee is more for bigger body areas. The expected cost for the abdomen is $4,000 to $8,000, but for the outer thigh is about half as expensive. Fees for the operating room, anesthesiologist and medications can increase the total.
